Public Speaking Preparation
WHAT'S YOUR POINT?
Before you even think about getting up in front
of people and speaking or conducting a seminar,
you MUST be 100% clear about your purpose. Are
you? Is your purpose to educate, or is your purpose
to sell your product or service? Most people who
want to promote their business with seminar speaking
make the mistake of not being crystal clear about
their purpose in advance. If your purpose is to
get people to buy your product or service, design
your talk to create strong desire in people to
take that action. If you want people to buy a
product, use your service, or even just book an
appointment with you, be 100% clear about your
purpose, and know exactly what you want people
to do when your talk is over. What's YOUR purpose?
WHO THE HECK ARE YOU TARGETING, ANYWAY?
Are you crystal clear about exactly who your target
market is, and precisely who you want to be in
front of when you do your Seminar Speaking? When
I ask my students "who's your target market?"
most of the time the answer is "everyone". Your
target market may actually be "anyone that is
breathing" - but in reality, that's just too broad.
You need to more tightly focus exactly who you're
targeting. Where do they live? How old are they?
What's their income? Are they married or single?
Do they have kids? Own their own home or rent?
Do they prefer dogs or cats? Got the idea? You
need to be so clear about exactly who your target
market is that you can single them out in a crowd.
When you can pick out your market just by sight,
you know you've got your target right!
CUTTING SEMINAR COSTS IN HALF (OR THIRDS...)
Want a terrific way to cut your seminar costs
in half? Team up with someone that serves the
same market you do, but is not a competitor. For
example, if you're a real estate agent, you could
team up with a loan broker or lender. Chiropractors
can team up with a massage therapist. Get the
idea? Just think of who serves the same market
you do, and approach them to do seminars together.
That way you both split the seminar cost. If you
can team up with even more people, then your costs
are even less!
