Speaking Tips and Secrets
Public Speaking Lesson #1
Speaking is advertising. Period.
Lesson over.
The sooner you grasp this ultra- all-important
fact, the better off you'll be.
Speaking is not about educating, but it IS about
informing.
This is going to sound harsh, but if you think
you can educate people enough in a half day or
less seminar or talk to be able to be competent
enough to do what you've taught them, you are
either the biggest egoist around or simply ignorant
of reality.
Speaking is not about educating, but it IS about
informing.
Most business owners I've taught or consulted
with have made this error: they think they're
supposed to be educating in their public speaking
or seminars.
Or even worse, they think they should be <gasp>
motivating people.
Wrong, wrong, and wrong.
Here's 2 hard realities you're going to have
to either accept right now, or spend years resisting
until you finally do accept the truth:
REALITY #1:
No one is going to remember more than 1 thing
you've said after your talk, and the next day,
maybe 1 thing if you're lucky.
You'll be talking along, people will be looking
you right in the eye - they'll be nodding and
smiling....
...and they'll be thinking about lunch, the weekend
upcoming, and an itch they just noticed on their
leg.
I know, I know - not YOU... you're riveting,
you're passionate, you get great feedback on your
presentations.
Ignore this fact at your peril.
REALITY #2:
Motivation lasts maybe a day.
If you're trying to motivate people, you're barking
up the wrong tree.
SO... WHAT SHOULD YOU BE DOING?
Three things:
1. Informing people about the opportunity they've
been missing.
2. Creating desire based on what they've been
missing and can now get.
3. Creating a strong, clear, concise call to action
and tell them what the next step is.
Once you grasp this, your entire reality is going
to change.
But once you put this into action, you'll be
able to create a flood of new business and income
whenever you want.
