Public Speaking Classes - 5 Critical Tips to Getting the Right Training for You

When you decide to invest in public speaking classes, you don't want to spend your time, energy, and money only to find that the classes you took provided you with little value or didn't give you what you wanted to get.

When choosing public speaking classes, fear rules the day: most people are do deathly afraid of public speaking that their judgment is clouded and that hampers their ability to make a wise choice.

That's why I wrote this article on 5 tips to choosing public speaking classes.

Take a deep breath, sit back and relax, and I'll give you the inside track to making the best choice for you.

Choosing Public Speaking Classes - Tip #1

First, get clear about the outcome and results you most want. Are you most interested in mitigating stage fright and fear of public speaking in general?

Or do you have more specific needs such as being able to persuade groups you speak to?

Are you in business and you need to master presentation skills to promote your business or make presentations to the board of directors, clients, or prospects?

Step #1 is to be 100% clear about exactly what you want to get out of taking public speaking classes.

Choosing Public Speaking Classes - Tip #2

What's your budget? How much are you willing to invest in yourself?

Before you answer that, back up to tip #1: if you have just a casual interest in improving your public speaking skills or conquering stage fright, that's very different than if your job or business depends on it.

The more serious your need is, the more you should be willing to invest since the quality of your training will matter greatly.

Remember: you get what you pay for - cheap training will usually not be very high quality or just be a teaser for more expensive training.

Choosing Public Speaking Classes - Tip #3

What's your schedule like? If you work 9 to 5, your time limitations will be a large determining factor in what public speaking classes are available to you.

Depending on your answers to the questions above, you might want to consider a workshop intensive or training crash-course vs. a string of public speaking classes that are spread out over weeks or months.

Choosing Public Speaking Classes - Tip #4

What's your fear factor? Are you just a little nervous?

Are you deathly afraid and have even passed out in front of people?

Your fear factor is going to predicate your comfort factor in a group setting.

You may feel much more comfortable with a small handful of people or even in a one-on-one training setting than with a large room full of strangers all staring at you.

Choosing Public Speaking Classes - Tip #5

What is your present level of ability? Take an inventory of your skills vs. your goals.

Write down your strengths and weaknesses - be honest with yourself.

Armed with the answers to these questions, you're much more able to make a decision on which public speaking classes will best fit your needs.
