5 Persuasive
Speech Ideas
Persuasive speech ideas can come from any topic,
any subject, and any area of expertise.
In other words, pick any topic, and chances are
you'll want to have at least some elements of
persuasiveness in your speech because a natural
part of public speaking includes persuading people
to see things from your perspective or to take
some kind of action.
That being said, the sky's the limit when it comes
to persuasive speech ideas - and if you want to
know how to persuade people when you speak, be sure
to read my article on how
to create a persuasive speech.
Here are 5 persuasive speech ideas to get your
creative juices flowing:
1. Donate To Charity:
This is an inherently persuasive speech topic.
As you describe the plight of the less fortunate
that your favorite charity helps, that tugs at
the heartstrings of your audience.
Showing pictures and videos using slides or a
PowerPoint presentation will make a big impact
and accentuate the need to donate.
Integrity demands that you actually do care about
this charity and that it's a cause near and dear
to you.
2. Buy Your Product:
Many people operate a small business that sells
products and public speaking is the perfect way
to promote your business and sell your product.
To persuade people to buy your product, focus
more on what your product can do for people, and
less on how great your product is.
In other words, focus on selling by highlighting
benefits, not features.
3. Make An Appointment:
The solo-license professional such as real estate
professionals, insurance agents, chiropractors
and so forth can persuade people to want to do
business with them through public speaking engagements,
seminars, and introductory educational workshops.
Just like #2 above, focus on what you can do
for people and how you can benefit them because
that's more persuasive than talking about your
education or achievements.
4. Take Up Your Cause:
Maybe you want to make a change in your local
school system.
Maybe you want to relocate the proposed city
dump that would be in your backyard.
Maybe you want the airport to not change the
landing path of airplanes to be over your neighborhood.
Rallying people around a common cause important
to all is a very persuasive speech idea.
5. Join Your Club:
Or join your organization - going out and doing
speaking engagements to garner memberships is
a terrific idea, and it's very effective.
Just like #2 and #3 above, focus heavily on the
benefits of being a member of your organization,
and lightly on how great your organization is,
how long it's been around, etc.
Summary:
In reality, persuasive speech ideas are only
limited to your imagination. Be sure to read my
